"That's it?"

Hera didn't actually say it, but she did share an incredulous blink with Kanan. They'd picked up their cargo a few systems away, flew it through what had been more a customs check than a blockade, not even been boarded or had to do more than answer a question or two ("Are you importing any foreign animals or have you been infested in the last year with mynocks?"), then been told to have a great time.

Now their contact had taken possession of the crates, thanked and paid them, and they still had two days left until their return portal.

Kanan watched their contact walk away, and then glanced at Hera again.

"So," he said, in a casual tone that suggested that he'd at least been expecting to have to pull out his blaster once or twice, "I guess we're... on vacation now?"

Or something?

Because even the digging around he'd done to figure out the bacta situation for Mitsutada was in a 'playing a waiting game' situation, here.

"We could try to move our portal up?" Only that would probably be expensive. "Or find another job?" Find and finish one in two days? Not likely.

"Or I guess we're on vacation," Hera agreed.

Now what?

"This is weird, right? I can't be the only one who thinks that a sudden, unexpected couple of days just hanging around on a tropical forest resort moon is weird?"

Kanan Jarrus, paranoid Jedi gunslinger man of mystery.

"Maybe the island wants us gone for a day or two?" It was definitely weird. "You think it has that kind of pull?"

Hera Syndulla, workaholic rebel of doubting.

"It did manage to turn me into a Loth-cat all the way from Lothal," Kanan noted, looking faintly bemused. "... What do people do on vacations on tropical resort moons, anyway?"

"I have no idea." Hera gave him a shrug and a helpless look. "Lounge around on the beach? Watch holos, maybe?"

"Okay, so... Got any good holos?"

He didn't.

"I don't even have any bad holos." Hera looked around the street. "Maybe...walk slowly back to the spaceport and see if anything interesting comes up?"

Maybe they'd get attacked or something.

"Just... go for a casual stroll?" Kanan chuckled a little, and then shrugged. "Sure. If nothing else, maybe we'll see something along the way that we want to stop and investigate. Some... new contacts or... something."

Sure, Kanan. Dream on, buddy.

"Maybe!"

Hera could hope.

They were so bad at this.

But in fairness, Kanan's usual vacation go-to plan was to get drunk and get laid.

So...

"I guess we could stop somewhere for caf, if that fails."

"Caf sounds good!"

Hera didn't ever remember having a vacation. Fandom came as close as anything.

"Maybe they'll have fruit, too?" They both liked fruit! Fruit was good!

"Caf, fruit," Kanan tilted his head, considering. "I don't think we've eaten. We could stop somewhere for flatcakes."

A beat.

"Somewhere fancy. Resort moon."

This was actually almost promising!

"Fancy flatcakes. Why not?" Hera shrugged. "Lead on - we can follow your nose."

"You put a lot of faith in my nose," Kanan laughed. "But sure, we'll see what we come across."

He started casually making his way down the street, smiling crookedly as he looked around.

"Weird place for a job in the first place," he mused. "Probably shouldn't be surprised it came off without a hitch."

"I guess not," Hera agreed. She strolled along, keeping close. "I'm guessing this is just a meeting place, and the cargo's heading somewhere else." Resort moons probably didn't need a lot of food or weapons.

"Well, then you'll have to commend your contact for picking a meeting place for us that's actually pleasant for a change," Kanan decided, looking around. "We should do some shopping while we're here. Pretty sure we'd have to go out of our way to grab anybody's attention by throwing money around while we're in a place like this."

Not that he had a wealth of it, but they might be able to get away with buying a small mountain of medpacks or something, if they found a supplier here.

"That's a good point," Hera said. "Maybe we can get some things for your friend, or for class. Or find some contacts for Summer." They could do things!

"Or all of the above," Kanan agreed. "Summer wants to scope the situation out for business along a major trade route, and I had to break it to her that I wasn't going to be the one taking her to Coruscant, and Corellia was a world to be careful of, too. Too Core for my liking."

Hera winced at the mention of Coruscant, and glanced sideways at Kanan to make sure he was okay.

"That sounds good," she agreed. "Someplace like here would have a lot of traffic but be far enough away from the real business of the Empire." It might be too pricey, but maybe something off the beaten path a bit?

She nodded toward a patio with umbrellas on it. "Want to check out her competition? I could eat."

"Honestly, I think she was hoping for a little bit of 'near the business of the Empire," Kanan mused. "And I'm not sure if that's because she's starved for excitement, wants to get in close to where she might hear some of the meaty things the Empire has up their sleeves, or some combination of the two."

He glanced toward the patio in question, and then grinned faintly.

"I think she can forgive us for fraternizing with the enemy. For research purposes."

Hera thought about it as they headed over. "I can see that being helpful, but I really think she should get a better feel for the galaxy before jumping in with both feet."

"And that's why I'm taking her on a cantina crawl this weekend," Kanan supplied. And then paused and added, "I'm the designated driver."

A quiet promise that he was going to stay dry.

Hera smiled, grateful for the reassurance, though she trusted him anyway. "That's one way of introducing her to it, I guess."

That could go really well or really spectacularly badly. "Should I keep the Ghost ready to go if you call?"

Kanan chuckled a little at that question, spreading his hands in a 'what are you gonna do?' gesture.

"You're more than welcome to," he replied, "though the Escape is good at getting from aurek to besh just as well. We're not planning on dancing with any Imperials. Just... taking in the local night life."

Possibly on Corellia.

So maybe yes.

"The Escape's great, if you can get to the spaceport," Hera said. "Having a ship as backup couldn't hurt. More for the hutts than the Imperials, some worlds."

Kanan ducked his head a little and chuckled.

"Sure, if you don't mind hanging around up there while Summer and I... probably watch drunken idiots stumbling all over themselves. Probably a good idea to have the backup just in case. I know how to avoid the Hutts. She's never seen one."

Hera shrugged. "Whenever you think you might need me, I'm happy to. Otherwise, I can just keep my comm on me in case. Make sure I know your schedule, and I can show up if I need to, but I'm sure you can handle just about anything."

"Honestly, for Summer's first time rubbing elbows with the lowest of the low back home, I'd feel better if we had backup," Kanan admitted. "But I'm not sure how she'd take it if we had you keeping in low orbit just in case. Keep your comm on, and we can go from there?"

Hera nodded. "That sounds like a good idea. Anyway, as long as she doesn't antagonize anyone, you should both be fine."

...Space, they were doomed.

"I'll keep my blaster close at hand," Kanan promised.
