Fandom Radio, Monday July 28

Good morning all, it seems the only new that the squirrels deemed noteworthy from yesterday was Miss Finch transforming from a literal finch back into her regular form on Mr. Kestis's balcony. Which was, I am being told, a little awkward due to both her rather precarious postion on the railing and the fact that she lacked clothing.

Until next time, Fandom.

Destiny & Free Will [Monday, Period 4]

This week class was indoors in Ghanima's regular classroom.  While the heat didn't bother her, it was too much for the students and Trebor.  And as people arrived, they would find her quietly coaching Trebor over a chess board, studious intent written all over his toddler face.

I haven't scared you off yet?" Ghanima asked, looking up from their game. "Fantastic."

"The question of free will is if, and in what sense, rational agents exercise control over their actions and decisions," Ghani said, hopping off her desk to wander haphazardly among the desks. "Addressing this question requires understanding the relationship between freedom and cause, and determining whether the laws of nature are causally deterministic. Sounds fun, hrm?"

"Now, then, let's ponder." Ghanima leaned against the wall to survey the room. "Moral responsibility, madness, and free will. Go."

2 Problem 2 Creative, Monday, July 28, 2025

Why did the classroom look like a cheap Italian restaurant? Why was there a miniature giraffe in a scarf in the corner? Excellent questions, both! Your teachers would explain it later.

"Hello, everyone," Anakin said.

"Today s all about hidden layers." It was not, but Ahsoka had learned to spin a line of bantha poodoo with the best of them. "So we may as well judge your homework first off."

Anakin nodded. "Yes, show us your costumes."

The costumes that you had remembered to wear, right?

Of course they had! They were conscientious students! Probably.

"And now onto the second part," Anakin said. "You are going to create chemistry on a first date."

Which...sort of explained the restaurant set up.

Feel free to start having a bad feeling about this. "Working in teams, you will relay instructions to your single on what to say and how to act. We will be judging which team had the best first date."

Feel free to start having a really bad feeling about this.

"Earl the miniature giraffe is looking for love," Anakin said like that was a normal thing to say. "His date, Tiny, will be here soon."

Steph was still of a feline disposition, so Vi had brought her along to the store, much to Saffron's dismay.

It was bad enough that Food Human was stealing all her rightful snuggles, and she was being forced to (ugh) share her salmon, but every time Snuggle Human had to actually do anything that required her attention, Food Human would immediately start trying to play with her.

Like now, when Food Human was pouncing on her tail.

Help, Snuggle Human. Help.

Movies in the park- Monday evening

The projector was set up in the park again, with all the room to set down chairs and blankets so people could hang out and watch.

Tino was also handing out toy totally-not-lightsabers which was not in the plan and he wasn't supposed to be involved in any of this so surely this would go well.

It was back in the classroom today, where Jag and Jaina were happy to take the droid babies people were probably thrilled to get rid of.

"Today will be a discussion class," Jaina said. "How did the week go? How did you work with your co-parent? Did you learn anything about the experience, et cetera?"

"And we will be checking the droid babies for damage after class so if there's anything we need to know tyrrr, now would be the time," Jag added.

Pick Your Poison, Monday

There were a multitude of reasons why Pam was happy to keep her lab on Fandom. Lack of sudden super-villain drive-bys, for one. A quiet, focused place to work. And... somewhere to retreat to when you'd just digested an entire evil apartment building's worth of toxins and you came home to find your girlfriend had bailed again for the week. Something about the Bats?

Pam preferred not to think about the Bats.

So she'd come home - to the shack, to here - early. And while she badly wanted to get back to her research, the ache in her body said no thank you.

The sign on the door said 'open'. Pam, herself, was inside, curled up on the sofa between the shelves, sipping some herbal tea she'd drawn for herself.

She really hoped this feeling would go away soon. There was work to do.

How to Waste Time on the Internet, 3rd period

"Some time-wasting things are more informative than others," Jon said once everyone had settled. "Though occasionally veracity is...well, best proved by actual research."

He held up his phone, which was opened to Wikipedia. "Wikipedia is more or less an encyclopedia, but crowd-sourced. Which is to say, anybody can write anything, but they do their best to try and keep it factual. It's generally safe for casual knowledge, but real resource...as I said, best to check.

"One way to use it to waste time, though, is with looking at random pages. They have their own code, or you can use something like Wikiroulette. Just look up a random page, read it, click on links in it to take you to something related, and keep going however you like. When you get bored or run out of links, you can start again."

He went to another page. "There are also a few games you can play with it, like following a specific number link until you run out of links, or seeing how fast you can get from one article to another using links. It's a definite time-waster, and also potentially informative and really interesting."

If you were a nerd.

"So let's do that, and report anything really interesting you find."

Good morning, everyone! Tony's on an engineering tear down in the lab, so I'm subbing in. Let's get to the notes!

Kitty put up signs for another movie night in the park on Monday. We're going to be watching Space Battles and I'll make sure Tony doesn't bring a working laser sword.

I am not a dream-killer. Speaking of dreams, Jane was avoiding the gremlin playwright from our workshop as he drank and worked on the manuscript at Caritas. Raiden has made my breakfast dreams come true with his new place, Over Easy. Yesterday was Mexican themed and you should definitely try the churro waffles. Jaina tried the mimosas, too, while I ate and learned about how the demon population of Baltimore is behaving itself.

*chittering*

Well, now you know there are demons in Baltimore. And that everything for yesterday! Have a good one.

Well, the gremlin from class was just sitting in the bar, writing the play. Or pretending to write the play while drinking heavily. And, you know what? Jane wasn't going to question it at all.

She was just going to stay on this side of the bar and help restock things. It seemed the safest option.

Fandom Radio, Saturday, July 26

Good morning, everyone, and welcome to the Saturday news with me, Miss Lydia Bennet. I'm sure the squirrels managed to notice at least three things through their inebriated haze, so let's begin, shall we?

At the school Drama in the Park-a-Rama practiced stunt driving for the gremlin director's newly revised vision involving underground street racing. As one does. The students in First Aid 2: First Aider received first aid kits, courtesy of Mr. Stark, and Dr. Blake went over the contents with them. I've no notes for the dormitory, the porg is sad, yes, yes, we're all familiar, moving along to the town, where Miss Eleanor was dealing with gremlins at Plant Parenthood, whilst Captain Flint dealt with a salesperson at the Ink Spot. Miss Skywalker was practicing the use of her powers at her warehouse, where she was joined by Dean Skywalker and a fake infant, which he apparently shares with Mr. Kestis, although Mr. Kestis has of course shirked his fake caregiving responsibilities. Well, those are all the notes I have, so I shall leave you until next week with a fond farewell, dear listeners.

Rey's warehouse- Friday afternoon

After spending most of her life having to handle everything so physically, Rey didn't use the Force for a lot of minor things. Sure, sometimes you didn't want to flip a light switch or whatever, and picking up on things like Force senses was more like something she had to switch off, but the only time she defaulted to using things like telepathy was when it was instinctive.

She'd given herself a little mission, and she was trying to use it for as much as possible for about a week. It wasn't about being lazy, but she figured there were ways to use it that she'd never thought of before. At worst it was an exercise in fine control.

So today she wasn't doing anything by hand that she didn't have to. Opening the door, setting up remotes, cleaning up the confetti that she was still finding in places from last week, she wasn't doing anything of that herself/i>. It was harder to remember to do it than to actually do any of it.

The Ink Spot, Friday, July 25, 2025

Flint had been startled from reading Sun Tsu's Art of War by the phone ringing. (He didn't know the phone even worked.)

The incredibly perky voice on the other end of the line didn't lessen his confusion in any way. "...back to school inventory," he repeated, sounding baffled. "We're a bookshop."

And that was how there would be a hundred adorable new notebooks delivered next week. Flint had said "uh huh" one too many times in an effort to get the person off of the phone.

For now, though, Flint was living in blissful oblivion as he plotted (as always) the downfall of the British Empire.

The door to the shop was open because Flint hadn't figured out air conditioning.

Fandom Radio, Friday, July 25

Good morning, everyone! It's Steve Rogers with the news of yesterday.

In classes, Summer introduced Stark's hobby class to the wonderful world of mid-century American cuisine, Pizza class ate casserole in Chicago--

*chittering*

Yes, you can expect this commentary for the rest of the summer. I was raised on Brooklyn pizza. I have opinions. Liliana stopped being a cat in time to teach her class, and I'm very impressed by her dedication.

In town, Liz was unpacking new stock at the Photo Hut, Pam was taking care of the hollyhock that's usually Adrien at Pick Your Poison, and Thor continued the race car movie theme at The Devil's Nest. Steven checked the exhibits at the museum to be sure that there weren't any people-turned-animals lost in there before Watts arrived with lunch and a discussion about what animals they were turn into. Harley also stopped in and learned about Steven and Watts' communication strategies. Lydia took Rey shopping during Luma's shift at Pixie Dust. After shopping, Rey and Lydia went to a crab shack with Flint for Supper Club and beat on crabs with a mallet for dinner. Sounds delicious!

On that slightly hungry note, I'm out of news! Maybe Tony and I'll go for crabs this weekend, too. Have a great day.

First Aid 2: First Aider, Friday, Period 3

When the students arrived today, they would find a black backpack waiting at their seat. "Okay, everyone," Don greeted them. "Tony Stark has generously donated first aid kits." That was a field medic kit, Tony. "So let's go through what's in here and how to use it, so that when you need a band-aid you don't mistakenly grab a chest seal. Hopefully you won't actually need the chest seals."

There were chest seals in here. Oh, and a snake venom extractor kit. Did they even have venomous snakes on this island? Maybe it worked on gremlin bites, too.

Don spent the rest of the class period unpacking the backpack and handwavily explaining what each item was for and a little bit about how to use it. Yes, including the chest seals.

"If you got one of these in a previous class," because this was not the first time Tony had done this, and he should not have been surprised when he did it again, "feel free to pass this one along to a friend. Everyone should have a first aid kit." Maybe not one this extensive. "Are there any questions?"

Eleanor Zarrin ([personal profile] what_big_teeth) wrote in [community profile] fandomtownies2025-07-25 08:16 am

Plant Parenthood; Friday [07/25].

Expecting a relatively quiet day at the shop, Eleanor came in, took care of the usual housekeeping and plant-tending things that she usually started her shift with, took care of a few new things to go on the shelves, and then settled in behind the counter with a big cup of tea and an even bigger book of the dusty old poems that she loved so much.

She was mildly concerned that her quiet, peaceful day might be ruined when a couple of gremlin came into the shop not long after she'd settled, but they were actually very easy to handle and were in and out relatively quickly, which just felt like a good, abject lesson in not assuming that just because someone is a gremlin meant that they were going to give you a hard time.

Which almost then made her wonder if gremlins were also subject to being gremlin bit, but she shook her head and realized that down that way went madness and instead figured it was just much easier on the brain to focus on, you know, something nice and easy like Eliot.

Plant Parenthood is open!
